All About Jazz is about the music and the people who make it.
Thank you for contributing to All About Jazz.
These guidelines are here to help you navigate our editorial process, prepare your work for publication and understand the standards we've developed over more than three decades of covering jazz and improvised music.
They are not intended to make every All About Jazz writer sound alike. Quite the opposite. We want our contributors to develop and retain their own voices, perspectives and approaches to the music. The guidelines provide a common framework for formatting, style, accuracy, communication and editorial practice while leaving plenty of room for individuality.
Some guidelines are practical and specific; others are just that—guidelines. Good judgment matters. Different kinds of stories call for different approaches, and our editors are always available when something isn't clear.
Above all, approach the music and the people who make it with curiosity, respect and a critical eye. Know your subject, get the details right and write with purpose. Jazz is an endlessly rich subject, and writing about it should be rewarding.
