Importing Album Information

To save you time with completing the album information section of your album review submission, we developed a convenient method to populate the album fields by importing the information from the two websites identified with buttons located in the album section of the submission form.

Before you get started, keep two browser tabs open: one for the album review submission form and one for the search results.

Step 1

Search for the album by entering [Album Title] by [Musician / Band Name] [Name of Source] (do not include [ ]). If the album exists at either location, it should appear first in your search results.

Step 2

From there, click the link, then highlight the page's URL and copy it to your clipboard.

Step 3

Return to the album review submission form, click the appropriate button, paste in the URL the click the GET button.

It should work on your first attempt and populate the fields, but if it fails (meaning, AAJ wasn't able to connect to the source), simply try again.

Both sources may require some clean up (.e.g. fixing personnel), but it sure beats entering the album information from scratch. You'll also need to update the record label value as the import defaults to "Self Produced."

All About Jazz can be a little tricky when adding musician names with accented characters in the personnel box of an album review submission form or an album information submission form. This review, in particular, presented a challenge, but here's how I fixed it.

First, I added the two names without accents (see first two rows below) and saved the album. Then, I returned to the album update form and typed in the remaining names up to the accented character. For example, with Wojciech Lichtański, I entered "Wojciech Lichta," then selected his name from the list. I repeated this process for the other names and saved the changes. It worked seamlessly and took no time at all.

If you exceed the allotted 20 musicians, use the "Additional Personnel / Instrumentation" box and follow the placeholders.

Lastly, we need to add musicians’ names to the individual personnel boxes as this creates a link to their musician page and their discography page.
