Nello Toscano Quintet feat. Francesco Cafiso e Dino Rubino: Patchwork Project 3
Ne viene fuori un progetto multiforme, che muta sembianze nelle nove tracce di Patchwork Project 3, grazie alla duttilità formale degli interpreti, in a proprio agio sia in brani distesi e notturni, come "Brooding," che in atmosfere angolari e introspettive, come "C&T". Toscano organizza il suo ensemble attorno a Rino Cirinnà - che si alterna tra clarinetto, sax tenore e soprano - e al baritonista Carlo Cattaneo, che in diversi momenti si rivela fondamentale nel conferire ad alcuni brani un andamento easy. Ballad e brani più complessi, rilassatezza e tensione, rendono l'ascolto di Patchwork Project 3 vario e positivo.
Cinquanta minuti di musica ben suonati, ai quali va dato il giusto tempo di sedimentazione per comprenderne appieno i significati, ed apprezzarne la sostanza e le traiettorie, che restano lontane da un certo jazz di maniera e artificialmente patinato.
