Alberto Mandarini Quartet: Passio

La passione, diceva Paolo Conte (citato nelle note di copertina), è sempre un po' spettinata, anche quando esce dal coiffeur. Ecco, uno dei problemi del jazz italiano è che si fanno troppi dischi pettinati, più attenti a compiacere qualcosa o qualcuno (il pubblico, la critica, la casa discografica, ecc...) che alla musica.

Passio è invece un album che può piacere o meno (a noi piace), ma è senza dubbio un album sincero, genuino, spettinato.

Un album di jazz, dichiaratamente jazz, nella sua declinazione più contemporanea, senza per questo dimenticare la tradizione, cui si guarda con un occhio al tempo stesso affettuso ed ironico (“Slide Blues”). Un album che alterna vorticosi uptempo a delicate ballate, e che risulta particolarmente efficace quando il metronomo corre veloce, con il trio che fornisce un robusto supporto alla tromba del leader, che si muove libera e vola alto sul registro acuto (come nel nucleo centrale di “Compression”).

Per chi la musica, oltre ad ascoltarla, vuole anche vederla, il CD include un video della title track.
