Guilhem Flouzat: One Way ... Or Another

È interessante l'assortimento del sestetto protagonista di questo One Way ... Or Another. Assieme ad un manipolo di giovani molto promettenti guidati dal batterista compositore Guilem Flouzat (allievo assai apprezzato di John Riley) troviamo i già esperti Ben Wendel (sassofonista dei Kneebody) e Laurent Coq (il più americano dei pianisti francesi) e, in tre brani, una rising star sempre più star come il pianista di origini armene Tigran Hamasyan. La miscela funziona piuttosto bene tant'è che più che un album di debutto One Way ... Or Another sembra il lavoro di un musicista con anni di esperienza alle spalle.

Questo grazie alla ricchezza e all'articolazione intrinseche alle composizioni che, pur nella loro struttura definita e riconoscibile, attivano un continuo gioco di rimandi e di sovrapposizioni particolarmente interessante. Alla cura e alla dinamicità degli arrangiamenti che riescono a combinare impasti timbrici non proprio consueti e ad imprimere all'esecuzioni continue deviazioni dai percorsi tracciati. E, infine, grazie all'abilità con la quale Flouzat si tiene lontano da un esibizionismo spesso in agguato tra le giovani leve e alla sapienza con la quale conduce il sestetto.

One Way ... Or Another è disco godibile, fresco, intelligente, regge benissimo alla prova dei ripetuti ascolti e potrà piacere sia ai fedelissimi di un moderno mainstream che agli amanti di sonorità e contaminazioni contemporanee.
