Joey DeFrancesco - Robi Botos - Vito Rezza - Phil Dwyer: One Take - Volume Four

Recita così il retro del CD pubblicato da Alma Records, il quarto volume della serie One Take, ovvero registrazioni proposte senza particolari accorgimenti di produzione, in maniera diretta, naturale.

I protagonisti della sessione sono: Joey DeFrancesco, sempre puntuale all'Hammond e voglioso di intessere trame scattanti e decise; un roccioso Vito Rezza dietro i tamburi; Robi Botos, che si divide tra pianoforte e Fender Rhodes; il tenorista Phil Dwyer, elegantissimo e figura primaria in più circostanze. Quello che ne è scaturito è jazz di altissima levatura, sia tecnica che espressiva, capace di muovere le proprie tendenze stilistiche dalla linee morbide e avvolgenti dell'iniziale "There is no Greater Love," con la quale fa il paio "Alice in Wonderland," a quelle smielate e sognanti di "Tenderly," dove si rintraccia un intro di Dwyer di gran classe, alle scorribande up-tempo di "Village Garden," nella quale anche Botos si lancia senza paracadute in un solo vertiginoso. Meno fantasioso l'originale intriso di blues firmato da DeFrancesco "Not That," al contrario della scintillante "Broadway" che chiude in scioltezza la tracklist.

Grande atmosfera, affiatamento millimetrico e piena unione d'intenti fanno di questo "Volume Four" un album godibilissimo, pronto a soddifare i palati più esigenti e buon indizio per neofiti in cerca di emozioni.
