Dino Acquafredda Quintet: On the Line

Sul suo profilo MySpace Dino Acquafredda si definisce come «un ragazzino di 50 anni». E per certi versi non possiamo dargli torto, perché i brani contenuti in On the Line, l'esordio a suo nome dopo una nutrita serie di collaborazioni, sprigionano la brillantezza e la fantasia tipiche dell'età fanciullesca.

Ma Acquafredda si rivela - anche e soprattutto - chitarrista di classe, preparato sotto il profilo stilistico e pronto a restituire emozioni che vanno oltre il mero tecnicismo. In tal senso è evidente la sua bravura nel saper trascinare il quintetto sia nelle situazioni torrenziali ("Urban Heat") che nello smorzare i toni quando c'è da invogliare alla riflessione ("For My Love").

Ad affiancarlo in questa avventura in studio alcuni interpreti di indubbio valore, tra i quali va segnalata la prova di Daniele Scannapieco al tenore e del pianista Davide Santorsola, per l'intensità espressiva dei loro interventi.

L'album si mantiene per tutta la sua durata - oltre un'ora, dove sono raccolti dodici originali firmati dal leader - su dei buoni livelli formali, grazie in particolar modo al fraseggio limpido e alle linee melodiche molto ben definite prodotte dalla band, in un'ambientazione sonora votata alla bellezza e dove non trovano spazio grinze e situazioni del tutto impreviste.
