Musicians on Miles

Click the play button to listen

Miles Davis would have been 100 years old in May of 2026. He was in the forefront of jazz for over 40 years, and though he's been gone for decades, his impact on musicians continues to this day.

In this hour, you'll hear jazz musicians discuss the Miles Davis recordings that helped shape their music.

The hour features commentary from trumpeter Jon Faddis on "'Round About Midnight," and trumpeter Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah on "It Never Entered My Mind." The pianist Steve Kuhn discusses the first quintet's recording of "Tune Up" and trumpeter Chris Botti talks about the live recording of "My Funny Vallentine" in 1964. The composer Maria Schneider, who worked with Gil Evans, provides us with insight into the recording of the "Concerto de Aranjuez" from "Sketches of Spain."
