Elliott Sharp: Octal Book Two
Sharp è solo con la sua chitarrabasso ad otto corde costruita da Saul Koll e cavalca a dovere le vibrazioni elettro-acustiche con grande capacità di immaginazione ed eccellente perizia tecnica. Le sue scorribande strumentali sono eccitanti e frastagliate, ritmicamente adrenaliniche, mai amorfe o inconcludenti. Ogni dettaglio tecnico sembra completamente sotto controllo e il libero fluire della musica riserva sorprese dietro ogni curva, specialmente se si ha il coraggio di ascoltare questa musica a volume alto, lasciandola ben risuonare.
Un argomento delicato da meglio comprendere è sicuramente il mix fra composizione e improvvisazione che sta alla base di questo album, un punto artisticamente interessante e degno di ulteriori sviluppi. Allo stesso tempo rimangono affascinati le tecniche esecutive di Sharp, un vero maestro nell'arte delle strategie innovative applicate alla rivoluzione delle possibilità meccaniche e timbriche della chitarra. La fonte di ispirazione dichiarata è il libro "Warped Passages" di Lisa Randall sulla fisica post-quantica. Buon ascolto e buona lettura.
