Riccardo Fioravanti Quartet: Note Basse

Prendete una manciata di brani di grandi interpreti del contrabbasso (acustico o elettrico poco importa, jazz o pop fa lo stesso, ma grandi compositori sì) e affidateli a quattro tra i più intraprendenti jazzisti italiani. Miscelate il tutto con una buona dose di fantasia, con delle illuminanti note di copertina che ci accompagnano, con qualche sorpresa, verso possibili chiavi di lettura e otterrete Notte Basse, seconda uscita discografica, per l'etichetta Abeat, di Riccardo Fioravanti.

Benché le composizioni di Fioravanti siano state concepite in montagna, curiosamente il loro mood è tutt’altro che freddo o natural-minimalista. Vi si trova un azzeccata miscela di ritmi forti “Il Dado è tratto”, di profumi caraibici, “Blue Trane Bossa” e “Blueberry Calypso“, di slow tempo sensuali, “Neve“, di blues atipici, “Sespir“.

Tra i tributi, giocati sul buon gusto e sulla leggerezza d’interpretazione, spicca su tutti “Jenny Wren“ di McCartney, un perla preziosa misconosciuta alla quale il trombone di Roberto Rossi e il clarinetto basso di Mauro Negri conferiscono toni morbidi e commoventi. E proprio il clarinetto basso di Negri è un’ulteriore gradita sorpresa dell’incisione, perché il musicista mantovano riesce a trasferire sull’ostico strumento tutta la fantasia, l’esuberanza e la fluidità di fraseggio che gli vengono riconosciute sul clarinetto in si bemolle.

Note basse è disco che si fa apprezzare per la grande varietà di colori esibiti, nonostante la prevalenza di strumenti dal registro grave, e per il garbo e la misura con i quali Fioravanti ha reso coeso un materiale sonoro assai variegato.
