Watch the 2019 NEA Jazz Masters Tribute Concert from the Kennedy Center at All About Jazz or Jazz Near You!

The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) will honor the 2019 NEA Jazz Masters at a tribute concert held in collaboration with the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC, hosted by Jason Moran. The concert will also be available via a live webcast at both All About Jazz and Jazz Near You.

On Monday, April 15, 2019 at 8:00 p.m. ET, All About Jazz will present, in its entirety, the tribute concert including remarks by the 2019 NEA Jazz Masters along with the performances highlighted below.

Watching the concert at All About Jazz or Jazz Near You

Between 8:00-10:00pm p.m. ET, all website visitors will be greeted with a full screen view of the event as it is streamed from the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC. You'll have the option to close the window. If you close the window, but later decide to watch the concert, simply go to the All About Jazz home page where we will present the program in the Featured Stories section.

The 2019 NEA Jazz Masters are:

  • Stanley Crouch—Jazz Historian, Author, Critic, Co-founder of Jazz at Lincoln Center (2019 A.B. Spellman NEA Jazz Masters Fellowship for Jazz Advocacy)
  • Bob Dorough—Vocalist, Composer, Arranger, Pianist
  • Abdullah Ibrahim—Pianist, Composer
  • Maria Schneider—Composer, Arranger, Bandleader

About The tribute concert

The tribute concert will be hosted by Kennedy Center Artistic Director for Jazz Jason Moran, and will include remarks by 2019 NEA Jazz Masters Abdullah Ibrahim and Maria Schneider. Patrick C. Dorian, distinguished professor emeritus of music at East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania will represent Bob Dorough, who passed away in 2018 shortly after being notified of his Jazz Masters honor. Loren Schoenberg¸ senior scholar with the National Jazz Museum in Harlem, will represent Stanley Crouch, who is recovering from an illness and will be unable to participate in the Jazz Masters events. In addition, Mary Anne Carter, acting chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts, and Deborah F. Rutter, president of the Kennedy Center, will both give remarks. Terri Lyne Carrington will serve as the concert’s music director.

The concert will include performances by Jay Anderson, Steve Berger, Terence Blanchard, Terri Lyne Carrington, Kurt Elling, Sullivan Fortner, Bill Goodwin, Cleave Guyton, Noah Jackson, 2012 NEA Jazz Master Sheila Jordan, Grace Kelly, Frank Kimbrough, Christian McBride, Charles McPherson, Jason Moran, David Murray, Pat O’Leary, Scott Robinson, and JD Walter.
