Tony Miceli & Diane Monroe In Media Pa Wednesday April 17th!
Appearing at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Delaware County—145 West Rose Tree Road in Media—on Wednesday, April 17th is jazz vibraphonist Tony Miceli with violinist Diane Monroe. Tickets are $10, $5 for students, and are available only at the door. Show time is 7:30 p.m. Information: 215-517-8337.
Jazz has produced but a few world class vibraphonists through the years. Tony Miceli, whose playing has been compared to Milt Jackson and Gary Burton, is one. Now in his third decade as a leader, sideman and recording artist, Miceli has played alongside stars such as Dave Liebman, Ken Peplowski, John Blake, Jimmy Bruno and dozens of others. He is a co-founder of the innovative MONKadelphia and a member of the PhilOrch Jazz Ensemble. Violinist Monroe is one of the few players fluent in both classical music and Jazz. As a classical artist, she’s performed all over the world as a soloist and ensemble member. In the world of Jazz, she spent 10 years as first violinist in drummer Max Roach’s legendary Double Quartet and has worked with giants like Dave Grusin, Joe Lovano, Reggie Workman and Percy Heath. Monroe and Miceli are now working on a project that combines Jazz with the influences of classical music.
Accompanying Tony Miceli and Diane Monroe are bassist Tony Marino and drummer Todd Isler.
Remember that April is Jazz Month in the United States and all over the world, making this a more than appropriate time to support Jazz, and all Jazz Bridge events this month. Jazz Bridge is a Philadelphia-based non-profit organization dedicated to assisting area jazz and blues musicians in need. Their Jazz Bridge in Media program is one in a series at this venue, along with four other area locales. For more details, visit Jazz Bridge.
Tony Miceli and Diane Monroe are available for interviews: please call 610-745-3011 to arrange.
