Valerio Della Fonte: Nevertheless
L'incontro con gli italiani ed in particolare con il leader contrabbassista, autore della maggior parte delle composizioni, funziona bene dando vitra ad un mainstream avanzato, ricco di groove e di emozioni, con quella componente ritmica che ci aspettiamo sempre da band americane.
Ci sono Dado Moroni, uno dei massimi esponenti esponenti italiani della tradizione jazz, e Piero Odorici, che qui si fa ascoltare su disco di nuovo al sax contralto, oltre ai 'soliti' sassofoni tenore e soprano.
Dalla delicata bossa di "Rainy Night" ai ritmi più movimentati del brano di apertura e al seducente sax soprano di Odorici nella title-track, tutto scorre in modo impeccabile, fino alla composizione finale "Song for Chicco" eseguita in duo da Moroni e Della Fonte.
Il leader fa tutto con modestia, prendendosi spazi limitati, preferendo guidare con mano sicura una session di mainstream molto gradevole, in cui riesce a fare suonare la ritmica in maniera molto compatta.
