Arrigo Cappelletti - Giulio Martino Quartet: Mysterious

In Mysterious, titolo quanto mai appropriato, il mistero del fare musica, la bellezza e l'insondabilità del momento creativo che fissa su pentagramma e traduce pensieri, riflessioni, emozioni, sentimenti attraverso gli strumenti, emerge con prepotenza fin dalle prime battute. La scrittura di Cappelletti - se si eccettua "Wolkwiese" di Edvard Grieg tutte le tracce del disco portano la sua firma - è al solito elegante, aperta a diversi piani di lettura e con trame che concedono ampio spazio all'improvvisazione.

Perché per il pianista lombardo il momento dell'improvvisazione è decisivo nell'allontanarsi dai cliché, dal già detto, dalle gabbie comode e invitanti della routine scambiata per competenza e abilità esecutiva. Così come diventa indispensabile la componente melodica non con la funzione di comoda boa di salvataggio nel vorticoso turbinio delle idee ma come reagente decisivo nel donare bellezza e luminosità all'espressività artistica.

Vi è un gran senso di souplesse nella musica contenuta in Mysterious, che ha qualcosa di metafisico nei suoi tratti, con atmosfere rarefatte ma rese vibranti dagli intricati e asimmetrici comportamenti delle voci protagoniste. Il sax di Giulio Martino, asciutto e volitivo il tenore, tagliente il soprano, si combina a meraviglia con il pianismo privo di orpelli, essenziale, sobrio ma evocativo di Cappelletti, mentre la propulsione assicurata dal contrabbasso di Roberto Piccolo e dalla batteria di Nicola Stranieri possiede l'elasticità e il giusto grado di frammentazione per esaltare al meglio lo sviluppo delle esecuzioni.
