Rosalba Lazzarotto: My Funny Valentine

Cosa sono gli standards, se non il ritorno alla culla del jazz, afferma Salvatore Bonafede nelle note di copertina. E così che la cantante Rosalba Lazzarotto li affronta alla sua seconda prova discografica, in modo disinvolto, con atmosfere che fanno venire alla mente alcune cantanti europee come Masha Bijlsma o Norma Winstone.

La band si muove in modo spazioso, aereo, la sua voce sembra fatta per cantare questo tipo di composizioni. Ci aggiunge un suo brano, "Vanishing," e sceglie anche un brano di Norma Winstone e Kenny Wheeler.

Anche qui si va verso un jazz in cui il ritmo è implicito, in cui la batteria di Massimo Manzi per lo piú colora le atmosfere, lasciando che tutto si sviluppi in modo libero, a seguito dei vocalizzi della leader, che mostra una forte personalità.

Nel complesso all´album manca un pò di varietà interpretativa. Presi singolarmente i brani funzionano, dal "My Funny Valentine" di cui vengono proposte due versioni (la seconda con la tromba di Samuele Garofoli), a "Estate," a "My Favorite Things," nell´insieme cala invece la tensione, cosicchè è un album che si ascolta bene a spezzoni, scegliendo i brani di volta in volta.
