Pericopes + 1: Good Morning World!

Read "Good Morning World!" reviewed by Glenn Astarita

The press announcement accurately states: “Periscopes +1 is an Italian trio project with roots in European tradition, African American music, and improvisation, and an affinity for melody and compositional structure, mixed with other post-rock/prog/avant-garde/electronic influences." This is the band's fourth album, characterized by an ultramodern vibe. The group's fourth album, Good Morning World, proves these sonic alchemists have not lost their taste for musical mayhem. The trio--Emi Vernizzi on saxophone and electronics, Claudio Vignali on piano and Fender ...

Emi Vernizzi's Human Touch in Electronic Jazz

Emiliano Vernizzi plays saxophone in Berlin jazz clubs one week and fills stadiums with rock star Ligabue the next. His work with Pericopes+1 has helped establish the group as one of Europe's notable contemporary jazz voices, with masters Dave Liebman and Enrico Rava championing their music. Their album Good Morning World! (Losen Records, 2014) examines human connection in an age of algorithmic control, blending acoustic instruments with vintage electronics to create textured soundscapes. “The transition from ...

Pericopes + 1: Good Morning World!

Read "Good Morning World!" reviewed by Neri Pollastri

Pericopes: Legacy

Read "Legacy" reviewed by Neri Pollastri

Pericopes: What What

Read "What What" reviewed by Mark Corroto

The sixth release from the duo Pericopes asks the listener to consider the scientific term rarefaction, or the reduction of an item's density. Like the rarefied air in the upper atmosphere or the spread of ocean waves as they reach the shore, their music is the converse of compression. This reduction is also evident in What What, where Pericopes have pared down from their previous +1 releases Legacy (Auand, 2017) and These Human Beings (Alfa Music, 2015) made with drummer ...

"Great record. Wonderful music with a very diverse repertoire, played flawlessly. You can hear the spirit and mutual respect the three musicians have for each other and the music.
