Undivided: Moves Between Clouds - Live in Warsaw

Dopo l'eccellente debutto con The Passion l'organico del polistrumentista polacco Waclaw Zimpel firma un nuovo lavoro, aggiungendo a quella formazione il clarinettista Perry Robinson, che incrementa la presenza statunitense affiancando Bobby Few.

La line-up di base è costituita da Zimpel, dal bassista ucraino Mark Tokar e dal batterista tedesco Klaus Kugel ma si apre volentieri ad altri apporti, fino a diventare un sestetto.

In quest'occasione l'aggiunta di due storici protagonisti del free anni sessanta non poteva che accentuare la dimensione ritualistica e magnetica di una proposta in equilibrio tra l'adesione ai valori della great black music e un approccio lirico e meditativo, vicino alla tradizione classica europea.

Le tre lunghe composizioni del disco sono state registrate al Teatr Akademia di Varsavia, il 29 settembre 2009.

La prima, "Hoping the Morning Say" si sviluppa su coordinate modali, riprendendo il clima del quintetto di Coltrane con Dolphy dei primi anni sessanta. La musica si snoda lenta e ritualistica, presentando interventi di Robinson, di Zimpel al clarinetto basso e di Bobby Few. "Moves Between Clouds" è quasi del tutto scritto e si distende con lentezza austera: la melodia è esposta da Zimpel al tarogato e Robinson al clarinetto e caratterizza tutto il tema. "What a Big Quiet Noise," è coerente con i criteri estetici dei due temi precedenti, anche se la tensione ritmica si fa palpabile e l'andamento melodico-armonico è free. Nel tema spiccano l'intervento di Bobby Few e la tumultuosa parte centrale collettivamente improvvisata.
