About the Album

"The Defender" is the opening track to drummer/keyboardist Gary Husband's Hotwired, with his new band Drive. Featuring trumpeter Richard Turner, saxophonist Julian Siegel and bassist Michael Janisch, Drive combines the acoustic post-bop sensibilities of Tony Williams' latter-day acoustic quintet and Miles Davis' classic mid-'60s quintet with a wholly modernistic edge. Seamlessly integrating synths and electronics, Hotwired reveres the jazz tradition while, at the same time, looking to the future, creating a timeless blend that's undeniably Husband's best project to date as a leader.
