MUSICIAN Born:

Gary Husband

Gary Husband is one of a rare breed of musicians in that his expression is divided equally in his capacity as a drummer and a keyboardist of international repute. His classical roots, his quest and development in the improvisational, jazz and jazz/fusion areas - not to mention his tenure in the pop, rock, funk and blues circuits - are all evident inside Gary's distinct and far-reaching musical personality. His solo album and DVD output over the last few years has also reinforced his status as a critically acclaimed writer and arranger in the contemporary music world. In 1999 he formed Gary Husband New Trio (with Mick Hutton, bass, and drummer Gene Calderazzo) leading from the piano and keyboards

Gergo Borlai: The Missing Song

Read "The Missing Song" reviewed by Jim Worsley

The Missing Song has been heralded as a tribute to Gergo Borlai's nine most influential drummers still alive and performing today. This is much more than just listing them and perhaps covering one of their songs. Borlai composed eight of the nine new songs on this album. He plays them all in the manner, or mindset, ...

Gary Husband & Markus Reuter: Music Of Our Times

Read "Music Of Our Times" reviewed by Dan McClenaghan

A tour of Japan was canceled. Some lag time ensued. So Leonardo Pavkovic—el jefe at MoonJune Records—set up some studio time for multi-instrumentalist (pianist here) Gary Husband and guitarist Markus Reuter. The result is Music Of Our Times. The set is spontaneously-composed. It is tranquil, moody and atmospheric. The first impression of the opening ...

Gary Husband & Markus Reuter: Music Of Our Times

Read "Music Of Our Times" reviewed by Mark Sullivan

Rarely has an album title been so perfectly descriptive. In March, 2020 the Stick Men with special guest Gary Husband had just begun a Japan and China tour. Jimmy Haslip: Amperes Beyond the BASSics, Part 2

Read "Jimmy Haslip: Amperes Beyond the BASSics, Part 2" reviewed by Jim Worsley

In case you missed it, Part One of my conversation with Jimmy Haslip covered a lot of ground and had a few good laughs along the way. Although we talked about the Yellowjackets, we delved more deeply into why and how he parted ways with the band some eight years ago. Haslip has been producing records ...

Read "Jimmy Haslip: Amperes Beyond The BASSics, Part 1" reviewed by Jim Worsley

The name Jimmy Haslip needs no introduction. So, he doesn't get one. Seriously, we had a lot of ground to cover and he had so many great stories and interesting asides to share that we are breaking the interview into two parts as it is. So, without further ado... All About Jazz: I ...

John Kelman's Best Releases of 2019

Read "John Kelman's Best Releases of 2019" reviewed by John Kelman

Well, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome continues to be a challenge, as it has been since mid-2014. 2019 represents, in fact, the worst year when it comes to the actual number of articles written. Still, I've been finding an increasingly satisfying niche in the arena of in-depth, detailed and extensive/exhaustive (exhausting, for you as much as I!!) articles. ...

Per Mathisen: Sounds of 3 Edition 2

Read "Sounds of 3 Edition 2" reviewed by Geno Thackara

The power of three indeed proved to be a magic charm for Per Mathisen on the first Sounds of 3 (Losen, 2016), so it's probably only natural that he'd revisit the format sooner or later. What's more of a surprise, perhaps, is how things change. Where that recording was a loud and brash slice of jazz-rock, ...
