The legendary pianist and composer Andrew Hill was at the height of his creative powers when two decades ago he recorded “A Beautiful Day” with his Andrew Hill Sextet Plus Ten. Now the big band session has a deluxe reissue with a fresh remaster and previously unreleased material. The title track (which appears in both its original and reedited forms) shows why Hill was considered one of the all-time greats of the music. His spectacular composition soars with a big band that includes Scott Colley, Nasheet Waits, Marty Ehrlich, Greg Tardy, and music director/conductor Ron Horton.
