Storyville Jazz Band: Live featuring Dado Moroni

Per il suo viaggio nel tempo questa volta la Storyville Jazz Band si è fatta accompagnare da un pianista di primo livello come Dado Moroni. E intanto la piccola orchestra devota al dixieland continua a seguire la tradizione. Già altri solisti d’eccezione avevano registrato con la formazione veronese. E oggi la tecnica e il rigore filologico delle esecuzioni confermano la crescita della band.

I vent’anni di attività della Storyville, nata nel 1986, vengono festeggiati con un album diviso in due parti. Nelle prime tracce, registrate in studio nel 2006, la jazz band è la sola protagonista, e catapulta l’ascoltatore in un rione di New Orleans degli anni Venti, con tromboni, clarinetti, sax e banjo che si inseguono a ritmi sfrenati.

La seconda parte, registrata dal vivo a Verona nel 2000, mette in primo piano Moroni, che si concede un unico spazio tutto per sé: il piano solo di “Lotus Blossom”, la splendida ballad di Billy Strayhorn. L’unico pezzo che si allontana, sia per stile che per il periodo della composizione, dall'impostazione di fondo dell'album. Dado Moroni alterna un tocco leggero a un fraseggio spezzato, proprio come in “Stardust”, dove l’atmosfera sognante creata dal pianista incrocia l'andatura quasi ubriaca della band, con un divertente gioco di rimandi.

Non poteva mancare la festa finale con una esplosiva “When the Saints Go Marchin’ In” che trasforma la chiusura del concerto in una baldoria generale.
