James Choice Orchestra: Live at the Music Triennale Koln
Per questa esibizione alla Musik Triennale di Colonia del 28 e 29 aprile 2007, dedicata a Luciano Berio, ognuno di loro ha scritto una composizione estesa lavorando sui concetti ampiamente esplorati da formazioni come la Globe Unity o la London Jazz Composers Orchestra.
La scrittura è aperta e lascia ampio spazio alle interazioni liberamente improvvisate ma ognuno dei temi si snoda entro minuziose strutture formali, che i diversi autori spiegano in dettaglio nelle note di copertina e che non possiamo descrivere in questa sede, vista la loro complessità.
La musica è tanto libera quanto minuziosa nella calibratura delle dinamiche e pur nella diversità delle procedure, le composizioni evidenziano una tale coerenza interna che l'intero disco può essere fruito come una lunga e multiforme esplorazione - ora volatile e sommessa, ora maestosa o vibrante - dei territori a cavallo tra musica contemporanea e free.
