Billy Hart Trio: Live at the Cafe Damberd
Con lui suonano due tra i migliori strumentisti tedeschi della generazione di mezzo, che hanno maturato ottime esperienze di studio e lavoro. Johannes Enders ha realizzato pregevoli incisioni guidando formazioni comprendenti Vincent Herring, Joe Locke e Ingrid Jensen e viene paragonato dalla stampa tedesca a Joshua Redman; Zenker è un poliedrico bassista a suo agio in tutti i contesti e un leader di note band trasversali (Ugetsu, New Territory).
Questa formazione non è occasionale (soprattutto Zenker collabora da tempo col batterista americano) e lo si capisce dal forte affiatamento che lega i tre artisti. Come prevedibile i temi sono prevalentemente caratterizzati sul piano ritmico in un intenso e frastagliato intercambio reciproco. L'unica eccezione è "Please Stop Me Now" dove Hart si limita a creare sottili fondali ritmici dietro l'appassionato intervento di Enders al tenore. Gli altri brani sono generalmente medio lunghi e si caratterizzano per la vivace tensione che caratterizza i percorsi, all'interno di una cifra di modern mainstream avanzato.
Elders (ammirevole per inventiva e serrata eloquenza) è ovviamente il solista preminente ma lo stesso Hart ha modo di esibirsi in lunghi e avvincenti interventi percussivi, come nel coltraniano "Re-training" o nel conclusivo "Voyage," dove anche Martin Zenker può mostrare le sue doti di solista.
