Uscita dalla lunga esperienza di band come gli Uzi, i Live Skull o i Come, la musicista di Boston Thalia Zedek ha affidato le sue pene rabbiose a una carriera solista che nel giro di sette anni ha prodotto tre dischi, l'ultimo dei quali è questo Liars and Prayers, lavoro dal suono compatto e scuro, caratterizzato dalla viola di David Curry e dal basso di Winston Braman.

Un rock-blues dilaniato e romantico, che qualcuno per far presto ha associato a quello di Carla Bozulich, ma che ci sembra francamente piuttosto noioso e scontato, privo di quelle qualità stranianti che potrebbero rivelarsi inaspettate e coinvolgenti.

Le canzoni scorrono abbastanza simili l'una all'altra e si può intuire che solo una giornata storta e "blues" potrebbe metterci in sintonia - del tutto epidermica - con la condotta vocale piatta della Zedek. Talvolta si ha l'impressione che i "galloni" conquistati in anni di onesta carriera e l'aura "indie" cerchino di giustificare una fondamentale mancanza di idee… ma il cuore e la pancia se ne accorgono.
