Venanzio Venditti Quartet: Let´s Move On

Paolo Piangiarelli non solo ha fatto da produttore a musicisti famosi - Franco D´Andrea, Phil Woods, Lee Konitz tanto per fare dei nomi - ma ha anche avuto l´idea di presentare giovani talenti nella sua Revelation Series. Talenti sorprendenti che escono dalle scuole di jazz e che sanno suonare, bene, il genere mainstream. Rivelano conoscenza della tradizione, tecnica, studio costante, insomma tutto quello che si richiede a chi si dedica a questo tipo di musica, in costante, ed ingrato, confronto con i maestri americani. E non è che poi si abbiano grandi riscontri, se si pensa che alcuni corifei del genere nel frattempo abbiano trovato lo spazio necessario per sviluppare le proprie idee oltre confine.

Venanzio Venditti si presenta con un quartetto ben affiatato e registrato alla Casa del Jazz a Roma. C´è la passione per la musica americana del periodo precedente alla rivoluzione free, quella che conquistò le preferenze del pubblico grazie alla Blue Note. Ad aprire la session c´è un brano di Kenny Dorham, poi seguono brani dello stesso leader e degli standard. Il quartetto suona in modo corretto, ma con passione, evitando esercizi di stile, presentando un lavoro che non suona scontato o buttato là perchè c´era uno studio a disposizione. No, sembrano presi da quella carica espressiva che c´era nei musicisti bop, alla ricerca di un qualcosa, notte dopo notte, che era nell´aria e che la società dell'epoca gli negava.

Il quartetto italiano va alla grande, anche loro in attesa di un giusto riconoscimento, mai stanchi durante l´intera durata del disco, senza un momento di vuoto creativo.
