Residenti in Francia dai primi anni duemila, il batterista/percussionista Arnaud Dolmen e il pianista Leonardo Montana sono ormai personalità di rilievo del jazz transalpino.

Dolmen è originario della Guadalupa dove ha svolto le prime esperienze formative e professionali. Nel 2003 ha completato la sua formazione a Tolosa, ha inciso numerosi album in proprio o da sideman ed è stato considerato uno dei migliori cinque batteristi del 2021 dalla rivista d'oltralpe Jazz Magazine.

Montana è cresciuto tra Bahia (Brasile) e Guadalupa (Antille francesi) da padre colombiano e madre inglese. Risiede a Parigi dal 2000 ed ha svolto la sua attività professionale accanto a musicisti latino-americani (Felipe Cabrera, Raul De Souza), francesi (Michael Felberbaum, Christophe Panzani, Geraldine Laurent) e statunitensi come Dave Liebman e Chico Freeman.

Quest'album in duo emana dell'Adjusting Quartet, la formazione guidata da Arnaud Dolmen che comprende anche il sassofonista tenore Francesco Geminiani e il contrabbassista Samuel F'hima. Batterista e pianista dialogano in piena libertà, sulla base delle comuni radici centroamericane, creando un percorso di forte impatto, caratterizzato da interscambi serrati alternati da episodi (anche vocali) melodicamente radiosi.

I dodici brani dell'album si snodano in un esaltante intreccio di suggestioni sonore: i quattro brevi episodi di "Spirale" esplorano analoghe figure ritmiche ostinate mentre altri assumono differenti identità, spesso ricche di sorprese: "Les Invisibles part. 2" è una rielaborazione improvvisata di "Afro Blue" (il cui tema appare sul finale); "Zouky Monky" allude già dal titolo a Thelonious Monk, dal cui songbook riprendono il noto "Evidence" e alla musica zouk delle antille francesi.

Precisi riferimenti al mondo latino-americano vengono dalla cantabile ballad di Pedro Aznar "Romance de la luna tucumana" mentre il successivo "Hey Cousin" svela radici ritmiche caraibiche. L'esplorazione jazzisticamente più incisiva è data dal brano "Hajj" di Leonardo Montana, che illustra al meglio le smaglianti doti d'entrambi.
