Rumble Quintet: Lenny 4 Five
E’ questo il Rumble Quintet, formazione a geometria variabile, che licenzia Lenny 4 Five, album nel quale vengono omaggiate alcune delle pagine più significative dell’opera di Leonard Bernstein. La parte del leone la fanno le Danze Sinfoniche da West Side Story con quell’alternarsi accattivante di ritmi, colori ed atmosfere diverse, ma pure gli estratti da opere meno note come The Age of Anxiety o Candide contribuiscono a disegnare un affresco di grande suggestione.
L’utilizzo di due Steinway&Sons D274 gran coda da concerto e la scelta di Velut Luna, etichetta che pone la qualità sonora come obiettivo prioritario, la dice lunga riguardo la valenza timbrica ed espressiva che il gruppo assegna al progetto. Ed è proprio tale intento che funge da collante dell’intera operazione, evitando i rischi di un estemporaneo patchwork musicale.
Non si tratta di abbattere i confini tra generi musicali, di trovare una possibile coesistenza tra musical e jazz, ma piuttosto di utilizzare scrittura e composizione come materia prima da plasmare, per ricavare nuove ispirazioni, per accendere il fuoco dell’improvvisazione nel rispetto delle architetture originali.
Il risultato è un disco denso, colorato, saggiamente misurato e ricco di spunti interessanti.
