John Brackett Quartet at Redfish Restaurant
Redfish Restaurant
Hilton Head Island
November 2017
Smoky-voiced singer John Brackett led a quartet at Redfish restaurant on Hilton Head, Wednesdays in November. John played piano together with Howard Paul, CEO of Benedetto Guitars, playing a guitar hand-built by his luthiers. On bass was singer Maggie Evans and on percussion, Fozzy Davis. They played a selection of Latin jazz, featuring the bossa nova music of Antonio Carlos Jobim including a beautiful "Girl from Ipanema" and the Jorge Ben Jor classic "Mas que Nada."
John Bracket is best know as a trombone player, but trombone gets in the way of his singing so he pays piano with the quartet. He is also a professional photographer of wildlife, taking photos from his boat of the natural beauty, birds and animals around Hilton Head island. Howard Paul travels the world promoting Benedetto guitars in the best way possible, by playing them in jazz clubs. Maggie Evans is a painter and married to the talented singer and jazz guitarist Jackson Evans. For the evening performance the walls were hung with her paintings by Judith Costello galleries.
The Redfish dining audience enjoyed both sets attentively, the musicians moved around the room to meet them during the break. This was a relaxed evening of Latin jazz where the mood matched the music.
