Jack DeJohnette, Ravi Coltrane, Matthew Garrison: In Movement
In Movement è tutto tranne che il tentativo di rievocare il passato attraverso due dei suoi grandi interpreti. Nonostante il disco inizi proprio con "Alabama," storico brano di Coltrane padre. Basso elettrico, uso non pervasivo ma evidente dell'elettronica, una interpretazione molto aperta, sospesa e onirica del brano mettono subito le carte in tavola riguardo il rischio di propositi rievocativi.
Tra composizioni originali e standard non solo jazz, vedi "Serpentine Fire" degli Earth Wind & Fire, il trio si muove in territori ambigui a cavallo tra sonorità eteree, raffinata musica d'atmosfera, sonorità dilatate, qualche guizzo improvvisativo. Come in "Rashied," chiaro omaggio all'ultimo batterista che incise con John Coltrane e nella title track, forse il brano più interessante della registrazione, con il sax soprano di Ravi guizzante e inafferrabile sul tappeto ritmico ossessivo e inquietante creato ad arte da Jack DeJohnette e Matthew Garrison.
