Houseplant è un flusso navigante di umori, di toni e scale.

Con "Inkionos" vengono ad intersecarsi diverse sensibilità acustiche, dai modi sordi e dai colori pastello. Ci sono poi momenti di delicato rock, che riportano all'esperienza Sonic Youth, come "Houseplant," una ballata trasognante e trasparente. Una ricerca attraverso la canzone che si esaurisce in maniera complessa, con il sassofono di Chris Speed che porta ancora lontano l'ascoltatore.

L'improvvisazione non è un fine, un feticcio e nemmeno un mezzo, piuttosto un sistema da utilizzare saltuariamente in musica, quando la fiducia tra i musicisti sia collaudata.

La bellezza trasognate di "Houseplant" prova a raccontare una alterità, una prospettiva libera, musicale, in cui ogni ascoltatore possa riconoscere un proprio momento, una propria esperienza. Dato che si tratta di canzoni, ma senza cantato, l'ascoltatore è invitato ad immaginare e canticchiare un suo testo. In questo, Houseplant è ancora un disco jazz.

Sono presenti momenti di ingenua bellezza come "Adbear," altra ballata elettrica, intrisa di passione e lirismo. Come gli altri brani, in quest'ultimo, il musicista prova a spingere all'eccesso l'espressione emotiva attraverso la melodia. Houseplant è un album di desideri e di sogni.

Dall'altra parte delle casse, sulla scrivania del pc, possiamo vedere grazie alle note suonate sempre con particolare attenzione, con dolcezza e delicatezza, il mondo sonoro di Jim Black e della sua band.
