Sleeping Bee: Heyday Maker
"(A) Sleeping Bee" è uno standard di Harold Arlen (cautore del testo niente meno che Truman Capote) con cui si sono misurati fior di jazzisti (da Bill Evans a Phil Woods, Cannonball Adderley, Ray Brown, Tommy Flanagan, ecc.) e soprattutto voci fra le più celebrate (Barbra Streisand, nell'interpretazione forse più nota, e poi Ernestine Anderson, Mel Tormé, June Christy, Julie Andrews, Tony Bennett, ecc.). Oggi l'ape dormiente dà nome al trio di recente costituzione che riunisce Goessling, Horner e Crafton, e che in questo suo primo lavoro raccoglie sette brani diversamente impregnati di umori country-folk.

La componente jazzistica - che non manca, ma rimane comunque alquanto ai margini - vi s'insinua strada facendo, in particolare in brani come "This Not to Be..." e "I Threw It All Away". Per il resto domina un clima molto rotondo, di tratto più o meno marcatamente ancestrale, oliato e simmetrico (ottimo l'interplay), qua e là un tantino manierato (proprio nell'eccessiva cura per l'involucro, la forma, che si allarga anche alla copertina, di singolare gusto post-progressive), emotivamente abbastanza impalpabile.

Un piacere per le orecchie, quindi; magari un po' meno per tutti i vari apparati interni...
