Caroline Davis: Heart Tonic
Interessante il risultato che potremmo catalogare come modern mainstream di classe ben lontano però dalle sabbie mobili della prevedibilità e della eccessiva levigatezza proprio grazie alla scrittura e agli arrangiamenti della Davis. Senza sottovalutare il suono e le linee del suo sax contralto che attingono senz'altro ai grandi interpreti della tradizione ma con più di un occhio di riguardo ad innovatori nella linea tracciata da Eric Dolphy e Lee Konitz.
Le composizioni hanno un respiro spesso orchestrale, con pulsazioni che accelerano e si rilasciano fluidamente, molta attenzione alle coloriture timbriche che l'utilizzo di pianoforte e tastiere elettriche valorizza ulteriormente. Disco sulla dolcezza delle emozioni e sulla forza dei sentimenti.
