Matt Criscuolo: Headin’ Out
Oltre ai citati Purrone e Criscuolo, le firme in calce ai temi sono quelle di Randy Weston ("Little Niles"), Miles Davis ("Sippin' at Bells") e Billy Strayhorn (il celebre "A Flower Is a Lovesome Thing," riletto, oltre che dall'autore in piano solo, da Vince Guaraldii e ovviamente da Ellington, anche da uomini dell'avanguardia quali Roland Kirk, Archie Shepp e Steve Lacy), per un album che si fa apprezzare soprattutto nei frangenti in cui la temperatura sale, ponendo in disparte quel po' di maniera che attraversa altri episodi. Su tutti citeremmo quindi "At Night" e "Centripetal" di Criscuolo, oltre al già citato "Karma at Dharma" di Purrone.
Album aproblematico ma non per questo supino.
