Roscoe Mitchell and the Note Factory: Far Side
[Piccola parentesi: che con la tecnologia di oggi debbano passare "tre anni tre" perché un concerto di Roscoe Mitchell diventi disco è questione che solleva qualche legittimo dubbio di tempestività produttiva]
La band è strepitosa e si può permettere di affiancare due pianisti come Iyer e Taborn, che oggi sono tra i più imprescindibili rappresentanti del proprio strumento, ma è tutta la struttura a "specchio" a funzionare, in un continuo evocare sonoro di grande fascino timbrico.
L'apertura è riservata alla lunga suite [oltre mezz'ora] che dà il titolo al disco, nella quale troviamo anche "Cards": è un brano che evolve in lente spire per la prima metà, quasi sospeso, per poi improvvisamente incresparsi in uno sciame meteorico di suoni che dà modo ai solisti di farsi investire.
Severo ma splendido anche "Quintet 2007 A for Eight," giocato su continue relazioni tra vuoto e piano e tra gli strumenti stessi, mentre "Trio Four For Eight" si muove per piccole associazioni e complicità tra i musicisti. Si chiude con "Ex Flover Five," guidata dal sassofono di Mitchell intriso di inquieta instabilità, a conferma di una musica che lambisce i territori più astratti dell'immaginario afroamericano senza mai perdere la connessione con le radici nere.
Non facilissimo, ma affascinante come sempre sono i lavori di Mitchell.
