Una considerevole distanza separa la musica dei Boxmusic/Cargocollective—gruppo di giovani musicisti elvetici—da ogni forma di ortodossia musicale, soprattutto da quella jazzistica. Nel loro secondo disco, Erosion (il primo, Bruch, è del 2008), il quartetto instaura un regime sonoro ampiamente elettronico, che prevede comunque la presenza di suoni acustici di tromba e batteria, della vocalità rapper (Black Cracker, Sky189 e Claire Hugueni) e dei timbri elettrici di tastiere varie, chitarre e basso.

Il disco è un'opera reticolare, in cui agglomerati molecolari di suono si compattano organicamente attorno ai declamativi vocali in stile rap/hip hop, e avvolgono il vero nucleo strutturale dei brani, ovvero le cellule melodico-ritmiche di tastiere e tromba.
A partire dalla presenza di effetti elettronici, che funzionano come una sorta di "rumore rosa" (onnipresente o quasi), la sostanza semidigitale dei suoni viene ad essere costantemente strutturata e destrutturata, allo scopo di dare alla musica una forma liquida.
L'opulenza verbale—nelle sei tracce del disco in cui compare- non pretende di dipanarsi nella classica forma canzone, è soprattutto flusso continuo di parole, ritmo ed evocazione di immagini, e trova nella vocalità rap di Sky 189—soprattutto in "Tempest" e "Mind Erosion"- e nelle inflessioni recitative di Black Cracker (in "Call Me Erosion") la perfetta sintesi tra potenza sonora ed energia evocativa dei versi.
Particolarmente suggestivo è il brano "NYX"- il meno elettronico dell'album- che si fa apprezzare per il senso di compatezza strutturale e per l'ottimo incastro tra le voci strumentali.

Senza voler necessariamente voler far riferimento a lavori come Doo Bop di Miles Davis o Jazzmatazz Volume 1 di Guru, dai quali Erosion in qualche modo discende, l'album dei Box rappresenta un incontro ben riuscito tra vari linguaggi musicali, compresi la succinta sintassi jazzistica di tromba, tastiere e batteria, il rock di Kaspar von Grunigen (KVG) e l'elettronica.
