Le prime incisioni da leader di uno dei più sottovalutati geni del sax tenore, già “spaventoso” a 22-23 anni, quanti ne aveva il povero Sal ai tempi di queste sessions.
02. Keith Jarrett - Jan Garbarek - Luminessence (ECM - 1978).
Lavoro con orchestra d’archi, con un sound che più nordico non si può, col suono di Jan in “cinemascope” più che mai!!!
03. Jean Pierre Como - L’ Ame Soeur (Nocturne - 2006).
Altro lavoro orchestrale, questa volta con legni, firmato da uno dei migliori amici e uno dei musicisti più interessanti della scena francese, con cui collaboro spesso; si sente un Fresu in forma smagliante, un Deidda grandioso come sempre, e un Silvain Boeuf ispirato.
04. Jan Garbarek - Trypticon (ECM - 1976).
Trio superlativo... sinceramente uno dei più belli e originali dischi di free (ovvero come fare free jazz melodico).
05. Jan Garbarek - Bobo Stenson Quartet - Dansere (ECM - 1977).
Il quartetto europeo pre-Jarrett, splendide composizioni e interplay grandioso; altra conferma del mio periodo “garbarekiano”...
06. Sandro Gibellini - Trufò (Blue Serge - 2006).
L’ultimo lavoro del mitico Gibo, con grandi musicisti al suo fianco (Soggetti, Micheli e Kramer), roba da far impallidire molti “big” made in U.S.A.
07. Ben Perowsky Trio - Live at the Knitting Factory (JazzKey Music - 2001).
Groove, energia e creatività dei nuovi newyorkesi.
08. Don Grolnick - Weaver of Dreams (Blue Note - 1990).
Ricordando con commozione l’immenso Michael Brecker...
09. Charlie Rouse - Unsung Heroe (Columbia - 1998).
Riedizioni di sessions dei primi anni ‘60, un Rouse in forma spettacolare, a volte quasi irriconoscibile, senza il suono di Monk a cui siamo abituati; un altro titano del tenore poco considerato... un maestro dell’articolazione!
10. Franz Schubert - Mass in Dflat (Decca - 1999).
Una stupenda messa con coro.
