Glockenspiel: Dupleix

Adrian Dollemore, il chitarrista dei Glockenspiel, confessa molto serenamente che il loro secondo CD Dupleix è finito abbastanza per caso tra la musica jazz, perché in realtà lui e Steve D'Enton - il batterista del duo - sono principalmente dediti alla sperimentazione elettronica. Ma la loro ricerca è stata di fatto sempre assai multidirezionale, tanto che i due si sono trovati spesso in passato a interagire anche con il free anglosassone, e ne conservano memoria nel loro lavoro.

La cifra di Dupleix è tuttavia da situare tra l'ambient e il noise, con ritmi reiteratamente ipnotici, aperture quasi liriche tra il tardo rock e gli scenari avant di stampo nordeuropeo, intensi magma nei quali sobbollono timbri e rumori di ogni tipo. Il tutto con una straordinaria pienezza di suono che fa perdonare una certa uniformità.

Il disco è piuttosto breve, poco più di mezzora, e si articola in cinque brani, dei quali il centrale "Belleville" è il più atipico, articolato e ritmicamente variato, mentre il conclusivo "Fentanyl" rappresenta bene lo stile dei Glockenspiel: durissimo, ipnotico, procede su una percussione sorda della batteria sul quale si innesta un crescendo di suoni e rumori elettronici, fino al catartico, improvviso e lacerante "taglio" finale.

Un lavoro particolare, che interesserà soprattutto gli amanti dell'elettronica e della sperimentazione.
