Jane Stuart: Don´t Look Back

Il secondo disco della cantante americana Jane Stuart la conferma come un talento molto interessante ed in continua maturazione artistica. Lo swing del brano di apertura "Just Found Out About Love" è coinvolgente e quando la Stuart si stacca da questo modello, ad esempio con i ritmi brasiliani di "Bird of Beauty" (brano composto da Stevie Wonder e da lei rivisto in modo originale) o con le atmosfere beatlesiane di "Eleanor Rigby" e "I'll Follow the Sun," dimostra comunque di avere un personalità matura in grado di mettere il suo stampo su ogni stile col quale si confronta.

A darle man forte un gruppo di musicisti che lei ruota con disinvoltura da un brano all'altro. Tra questi, spiccano Dick Oatts al sax alto ed al flauto e Dave Stryker alla chitarra. Ma, ad ogni ascolto di questo CD, ci si rende conto che a dirigere tutto è sempre e comunque lei. Il che conferma la Stuart capace di operare in modo forte ma discreto alla guida della seduta di registrazione senza che scappi nulla alla sua attenzione.

L'ascolto di Don't Look Back, quindi, lascia all'ascoltatore l'impressione di un album compiuto, in cui la complessità dei brani scelti e le varie direzioni musicali intraprese sono risolte con forte personalità. L'ottima qualità della registrazione rappresenta la ciliegina sulla torta.
