After a stint with Charles Mingus in the mid '70s, he spent a decade co-leading The George Adams / Don Pullen Quartet, one of the most exciting small groups of the '80s. The bassist in that quartet, Cameron Brown, wrote, "Don was the pianist of my lifetime."
Later in his career, he recorded remarkable trio dates and continued his musical exploration with his African Brazilian Connection. Forgotten music well worth discovering.
