Ecco un disco davvero 'tutto attorno al jazz.' Dave Sharp è un bassista e contrabbassista nato nel Michigan, dove ha mosso i primi passi nel mondo della musica prima di trasferirsi a San Francisco e specializzarsi sotto la guida di Herbie Lewis (già al fianco di McCoy Tyner, Cannonball Adderly, Les McCann). L'esperienza in tour accanto a The Melvins ha fatto da rampa di lancio per avventure musicali a trecentosessanta gradi.

Questo Secret Seven pubblicato nel 2010 da Vortex Jazz suona come una fantasmagorica festa fra amici nella quale le coordinate musicali si perdono. Circondato da sassofoni, flauti, armoniche, hammond, percussioni, lap steel e una quantità d'altri struenti, Sharp dà vita a nove brani che intersecano stili e generi.

"Africano" profuma tanto d'Africa quanto di ritmi sudamericani, "Chrispy Underground" è catchy e funky fino al midollo, un pezzo che Maceo Parker apprezzerebbe nel proprio repertorio. "Skeleton Key" recupera certe atmosfere bandistiche e piene di fiati alla New Orleans, "Boop Bwee Ahh" è un inno ai Seventies più intrisi di Hammond, con "Lootmar" viriamo verso possibili ballad strumentali. A chiudere la scaletta l'unico brano cantato dell'album: "Can I be Tour Sqeeze?". Grandi musicisti, grande musica, e grande groove. Qualche volta non serve altro.
