Un titolo sibillino, visto che può significare tutto, e, quindi, niente. I progetti crossover si moltiplicano. C'è il crossover fra la musica classica e quella etnica, o quello fra rock e classica, o fra jazz e pop e così via. Insomma le commistioni non mancano e la musica spesso ne beneficia.

Seguendo questa metodologia i due artisti qui presenti si appropriano di sonorità jazz. Ma solo della sonorità perché altri aspetti, come swing o improvvisazione, restano da parte. D'altronde in un lavoro a metà fra pop e jazz moderno, o quello che si intende per tale, è quello che si cercava.

Max Zanotti ha già lasciato interessanti tracce discografiche con i Deasonika. Il suo è uno stile da cantante "popolare," dalla voce possente, a suo agio nel proporre in modo personale cover di brani altrui. Lo ascoltiamo alle prese con standard famosi, "My Favorite Things," "My Funny Valentine," una Valentina così lontana da quella che aveva cantato Chet Baker, cosí fragile e diafana. Zanotti è tutta un'altra cosa perchè la voce è forte, drammatica, ed il modo di cantare è decisamente un altro. E non mancano canzoni prese dal mondo del rock, come "Coma White" di Marilyn Manson.

Il pianoforte di Floriano Bocchino lo accompagna con atmosfere prese dai pianisti europei, quelli che ascoltiamo su ECM e che ormai hanno fatto scuola. Lo fa con cura, senza grande voglia di improvvisare, tutto preparato, tutto perfetto.

Fra un brano e l'altro si arriva alla fine con un'impressione positiva, specie per chi ascolta soprattutto musica pop.
