Musicista di casa presso le avanguardie statunitensi, John Tchicai è ovviamente a proprio agio anche nella natia Danimarca. In questo album troviamo il sassofonista in compagnia di alcuni tra i musicisti più interessanti della scena contemporanea (sperimentale?) danese. La configurazione strumentale è quella tipica del quartetto jazz. Quel quartetto che tanto ha contribuito a creare la fortuna artistica del John Coltrane evocato nel titolo dell'album. Nonostante questa suggestione, tuttavia, le tracce del sassofonista di Hamlet sono minime, e rintracciabili per lo più verso il finale dell'album.

L'incipit, al contrario, è di quelli che fanno tremare le ginocchia: voce recitante su rarefatte note di pianoforte, distillate con parsimonia tutta scandinava. E sebbene la voce di Tchicai abbia una sua forza evocativa, e nei testi riecheggi il nome di Coltrane, questa prima traccia si perde facilmente nel dimenticatoio. A partire dalla seconda traccia, tuttavia, l'album cambia decisamente rotta e prende traiettorie più godibili. Il sound assume a tratti echi chicagoani, a volte si intravede Ornette Coleman, talora fa capolino la sperimentazione di matrice nordica. Musica di ampi orizzonti, che talora accusa qualche calo di tensione, ma che è anche in grado - a tratti - di raggiungere vette molto alte.
