Christoph Irniger Quartet: Chat Noir
Irniger ha una vena compositiva felice, che non rifugge la complessità armonica e ritmica ma che mantiene sempre viva una notevole linea melodica, ed il suo quartetto suona molto bene. La sezione ritmica porge il tempo sempre in modo serrato, mentre Wiesendanger alterna pianoforte e Fender Rhodes in funzione delle esigenze espressive (nei brani che ci sono piaciuti di più, lo troviamo al rhodes).
L'album, lungi dall'essere perfetto, procede in modo un po' altalenante. In un paio di brani si scivola verso un post-bop di ottima fattura, ma pur sempre poco efficace, soprattutto se confrontato con le tracce migliori (ad esempio la prima). Non stiamo dunque gridando al miracolo. Tuttavia, in considerazione della giovane età di Irniger, gli perdoniamo volentieri questi peccati veniali, e lo attendiamo fiduciosi alle prossime prove.
