Omar Sosa – NDR Bigband: Ceremony
Questo album, realizzato in coabitazione con la NDR Bigband (oltre al suo quartetto), che ne rilegge con proprietà e concretezza dieci composizioni arrangiate dal brasiliano Jaques Morelenbaum, presente anche al violoncello, è ad esempio opera di sicuro interesse, in cui (forse non a caso) il pianista cubano, evidentemente già sufficientemente gratificato dalla situazione in sé, si mantiene felicemente sottotraccia, evitando quegli eccessi che sicuramente non ne hanno granché premiato altre manifestazioni del proprio ego.
Il gioco orchestrale non manca di toccare terreni esuberanti, diretti, colorati, ma ciò è parte integrante dell'universo espressivo di Sosa, che di fatto non scivola mai (o quasi) nel "cattivo gusto" di cui sopra. La costruzione è solida e sufficientemente articolata, con un'impronta ritmica palpabile. Dopo la brillante, breve ouverture ("Llegada Con Elegba"), si fanno apprezzare in particolare il terzo e quarto episodio, "Danzón De Tus Ojos" e "Yemaya En Agua Larga," l'uno di approccio danzante, con un ottimo Morelenbaum, l'altro particolarmente ricco sul piano cromatico, e poi ancora "Cha Con Marimba," con Sosa e il trombone di Dan Gottshall sugli scudi, "Carambabá," forse il momento più felicemente cameristico del lotto, impreziosito da timbriche pastose e da un bel solo di Frank Delle al clarinetto basso, e "Monkurú," di tratto orchestrale meno olimpico, anzi piuttosto acceso, e un nuovo bell'intervento pianistico.
Insomma: se volete qualcosa di Omar Sosa ma non amate, con più di un buon motivo, certe sue (frequenti) scivolate, questo è il disco che fa per voi.
