Secret Quartet: Bloor Street
Certo tutto ciò non è un delitto, ma se l'ascoltatore curioso volesse cercare un po' di adrenalina, qualche emozione al di là del piacevole e rassicurante ascolto, o individuare anche flebili segnali di rinnovamento del linguaggio improvvisativo, beh la sua fatica sarebbe vana. E allora meglio concentrarsi sul suono, che è rigorosamente acustico, dalla resa viva e vivida, sulla bravura dei solisti, lirica e intensa la pianista Nikki Iles, morbido, sinuoso, con una voce straordinariamente pura il sax contralto di Speake, sulla qualità delle composizioni tra sussulti boppish e lirismo nordico.
Bloor Street è album dall'aplomb decisamente british con l'eccezione del brano finale, brioso, dalla ritmica meno ortodossa, vicino a certi lavori di Steve Coleman, una finestra aperta su possibili sviluppi futuri del quartetto.
