Barry Guy, Jaleel Shaw, Linda May Han Oh & Zoh Amba

English avant-garde bassist Barry Guy is considered one of the finest in any musical genre and his compositional work is equally regarded. One of his signature pieces is "Harmos," and you will hear that as performed by the London Jazz Composers Orchestra recorded live in Krakow Poland. Saxophonist Jaleel Shaw's new Painter Of The Invisible provides a powerful tribute to Tamir Rice, the 12-year-old African American boy who was shot and killed by a Cleveland police officer in November 2014 while holding a toy gun. A pair of drummers represent new albums: Chicago's Lily Finnegan & England's Johnny Hunter, while saxophonists David Bixler and Zoh Amba with her new Sun Ensemble also introduce new works. You'll hear some microtonal guitar from China's Lingyuan Yang now studying in Europe, and a preview of the latest recording by acclaimed bassist Linda May Han Oh, Strange Heavens, which features the equally acclaimed trumpeter Ambrose Akinmusire and drummer Tyshawn Sorey. Plenty of other great tunes too.
