Lina Nyberg: The Clouds

Read "The Clouds" reviewed by Troy Dostert

In a career spanning almost three decades--her first release, Close (Prophone), with Esbjörn Svensson, dates from 1993-- vocalist, composer and arranger Lina Nyberg has worked with many of the finest musicians in the Swedish jazz scene to create a truly formidable body of work. Nineteen albums later, her creativity shows no signs of abating. In fact, ...

Viktor Skokic Sextett: Basement Music

Read "Basement Music" reviewed by Mark Corroto

Basement Music, the title of bassist Viktor Skokic's premiere as a band leader, refers not to the social isolation of the 2020 global pandemic, but to the sites of his compositional efforts. Written in his basement, and recorded prior to the lockdown, the music is actually the converse of social distancing—'converse' as in conversation. His 'Sextett' ...

Anders Jormin: Poems for Orchestra

Read "Poems for Orchestra" reviewed by Neri Pollastri

AP6C Alberto Pinton Sestetto Contemporaneo: Layers

AP6C: Layers

Read "Layers" reviewed by Mark Corroto

Have you been wondering lately, where all the thoughtful music has gone? Today we have universities teaming with technical wunderkinds who can flawlessly navigate “Giant Steps" or “Cherokee," and recordings that are showcases of dexterity and complexity, but much of it is devoid of the essence of meaning, in other words, soul. That is, until you ...

Don Cherry Tribute, Four Visions, Alberto Pinton & Earprint

Read "Don Cherry Tribute, Four Visions, Alberto Pinton & Earprint" reviewed by Maurice Hogue

The late trumpeter Don Cherry had and still has a huge influence on the creative music scene, from his work with Ornette, Coltrane, Old And New Dreams, CODONA, and Carla Bley to his exploration and fusion of world music. That influence led Italian drummer/percussionist, Cristiano Calcagnile, to form an ensemble to perform a tribute to Cherry ...

All About Jazz & Jazz Near You were built to promote jazz music: both recorded and live events. We rely primarily on venues, festivals and musicians to promote their events through our platform. With club closures, shelter in place and an uncertain future, we've pivoted our platform to collect, promote and broadcast livestream concerts to support our jazz musician friends. This is a significant but neccesary effort that will help musicians now, and in the future. You can help offset the cost of this essential undertaking by making a donation today. In return, we'll deliver an ad-free experience (which includes hiding the bottom right video ad). Thank you.
