Non è facile realizzare un album che sia classico, in senso jazzistico, non banale e capace di uscire dallo stereotipo del filone in cui si inserisce. Playground del batterista francese Manu Katche riesce ad essere queste tre cose insieme. Lungamente al fianco di Peter Gabriel, Sting, Youssou n’Dour e Jan Garbarek, Katche aveva già convinto con la sua prima prova da solista, Neighbourhood.
