Anthony Braxton / Miya Masaoka: Duo (DCWM) 2013

Read "Duo (DCWM) 2013" reviewed by John Sharpe

Typically for acclaimed reedman, composer and educator Anthony Braxton his encounter with the Japanese koto, played here by Miya Masaoka, is not even the first such duet in his voluminous discography. That was 11 Compositions (Duo) 1995 with Brett Larner (Leo Records, 1997) which interpreted written materials. For all intents and purposes, Duo (DCWM) 2013 is freely improvised, but with the notable addition of Braxton's interactive electronic textures which add an air of mystery through generally unobtrusive washes, shimmers, tinkled ...

Anthony Braxton: 3 Compositions (EEMHM) 2011

Read "3 Compositions (EEMHM) 2011" reviewed by Karl Ackermann

There is little in the extensive catalog of Anthony Braxton that falls into a customary compositional milieu. His more recently formed conceptual structure, Echo Echo Mirror House (circa 2011), succeeds Ghost Trance Music and Diamond Curtain Wall Music as a platform for his unique system of coded composing and improvising. On 3 Compositions (EEMHM) 2011, each member of the septet has dual functions as they are armed with iPods, in addition to their more familiar instruments. What reads as being ...

Anthony Braxton, Derek Bailey: First Duo Concert

Read "First Duo Concert" reviewed by Enrico Bettinello

Anthony Braxton: Trio and Duet

Read "Trio and Duet" reviewed by Stefano Merighi

Anthony Braxton's Sonic Genome at Turin's Jazz Festival 2015

Read "Anthony Braxton's Sonic Genome at Turin's Jazz Festival 2015" reviewed by Francesco Martinelli

Egyptian Museum Turin Jazz Festival Turin, Italy May 28, 2015 Someone might ask: “Why is an African-American saxophonist from Chicago performing inside the Egyptian Museum in Turin? Where is the connection between “da jazz" and Ancient Egypt?" Sorry, but it isn't a legitimate question. If you still don't make the connection, take the Sun Ra 101 course including mandatory listening of recordings by Earth, Wind and Fire... The context Torino's Jazz ...

Anthony Braxton: Trio and Duet

Read "Trio and Duet" reviewed by Hrayr Attarian

Multi reed player and composer Anthony Braxton has been called a genius by some and for very good reason. He is one of the most restlessly innovative and intelligently idiosyncratic contemporary musicians. He seamlessly erases the boundaries between the composed and the improvised and his works brim equally with fresh and progressive ideas as well as concepts rooted in both the modern classical and the early free jazz traditions.Delmark Records has reissued on CD his Trio and Duet ...
