"The Adventures of Kang and Kodos," brano d'apertura di Inheritance, è neo-bop allo stato puro, ritmo vertiginoso, assoli fulminanti, call and response serrati, un senso di urgenza che sostiene gli oltre sette minuti del brano. “Herod," la traccia successiva divisa in due parti, arriva perciò a sorpresa, così impregnata di non troppo velati colori mediorientiali, andatura dinoccolata ed il clarinetto di Don Byron a far faville.
